I went back to Brazilian jiu jitsu last night. Today I hurt. A lot. It’s a good hurt though, the kind of muscle sore that lets you know you’ve done something. When I recover I will be stronger and healthier.
Motivationg myself to exercise for the sake of exercise is next to impossible. If I try to exercise for the sake of exercise, I have a hard time pushing myself and feel as if I am wasting my time. I’m much more successful about it if I do something that interests me and also happens to be exercise.
Prior to last night, I’ve done nothing athletic (unless you count walking the dog) since the summer. I’ve gained weight and lost energy. My mental state has gone downhill to the point that I’ve seriously been considering going back on antidepressants. If I don’t change, I’m going to have to. That’s not where I want to be.
Has anyone else used diet and exercise to moderate mood? Have you been successful? What activities do you do? How much exercise do you need? How do you fit diet into all this?
